Am doi frați și două surori.
I have two brothers and two sisters.
Locuiesc la etajul al treilea, apartamentul douăzeci și cinci.
I live on the third floor, apartment twenty-five.
Prima zi de școală este în septembrie.
The first day of school is in September.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
1-100, gender on 1-2 (unu/una, doi/două). Ordinals: primul, al doilea.
Gender on 1 and 2. Ordinal formation.
Common Error Patterns
Using wrong gender form of 1 or 2
1: unu (masc.), una (fem.). 2: doi (masc.), două (fem.). Must agree!
Wrong ordinal form
Ordinals: primul/prima (1st), al doilea/a doua (2nd), al treilea/a treia (3rd).
Am doi frați și două surori.
I have two brothers and two sisters.
'Doi' (masc.) for brothers, 'două' (fem.) for sisters. Gender agreement on number 2!
Locuiesc la etajul al treilea, apartamentul douăzeci și cinci.
I live on the third floor, apartment twenty-five.
'Al treilea' = the third (ordinal, masc.). 'Douăzeci și cinci' = 25 (tens + și + units).
Prima zi de școală este în septembrie.
The first day of school is in September.
'Prima' = first (fem. ordinal, agrees with zi). 'În septembrie' = in September.
