Romanian uses HAVE for age: 'Am 20 de ani', NOT *'Sunt 20 de ani'.
Pronouncing 'are' as English
'Are' is two syllables [a.re]. It means 'he/she has'.
Am o casă mare și un câine mic.
I have a big house and a small dog.
'Am' = I have. 'O' = a (fem.). 'Un' = a (masc.). Adjectives after nouns!
Câți ani ai? Am douăzeci și cinci de ani.
How old are you? I am twenty-five.
'Câți ani ai?' = literally 'How many years do you have?' Romanian uses 'a avea' for age.
Ele au foame și noi avem sete.
They (f.) are hungry and we are thirsty.
'Au foame' = 'have hunger'. 'Avem sete' = 'have thirst'. States use 'a avea'.
