Common Error Patterns
Omitting the reflexive pronoun
Reflexive verbs NEED the pronoun: 'Mă numesc Ana', not *'Numesc Ana'.
Placing reflexive pronoun after verb
Reflexive pronoun goes BEFORE the verb: 'Mă trezesc', not *'Trezesc mă'.
Mă numesc Ana și mă trezesc la șapte dimineața.
My name is Ana and I wake up at seven in the morning.
'Mă numesc' = I am called (lit. I call myself). 'Mă trezesc' = I wake up. Reflexive pronoun before verb.
Ei se grăbesc și noi ne pregătim.
They are hurrying and we are getting ready.
'Se grăbesc' = they hurry. 'Ne pregătim' = we prepare ourselves. Each person has its own reflexive pronoun.
Cum te simți astăzi? Mă simt bine, mulțumesc.
How do you feel today? I feel well, thanks.
'Te simți' = you feel (reflexive). 'Mă simt' = I feel. 'A se simți' is reflexive in Romanian.
