Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Türkçe'de bazı sessiz harfler ek aldığında değişir. Bu iki önemli kural vardır:
1. Ünsüz Yumuşaması: Sözcük sonundaki sert ünsüz, ünlüyle başlayan bir ek alınca yumuşar:
| Sert | Yumuşak | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| p | b | kitap → kitabı |
| t | d | kanat → kanadı |
| k | ğ | çocuk → çocuğu |
| ç | c | ağaç → ağacı |
2. Ünsüz Sertleşmesi: p, ç, t, k ile biten sözcüklerden sonra gelen d, c, g sesleri sertleşir:
| Yumuşak | Sert | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| d | t | ağaç + -dan → ağaçtan |
| c | ç | Türk + -ce → Türkçe |
Dikkat: Tek heceli sözcüklerin bazıları yumuşamaz: et → eti (yumuşamaz), süt → sütü (yumuşamaz).
Common Error Patterns
Failed to soften final consonant before vowel-initial suffix
Remember: p→b, t→d, k→ğ, ç→c before suffixes starting with a vowel
Failed to harden suffix consonant after hard final consonant
After p, ç, t, k: d→t, c→ç, g→k in the suffix

kitap → kitab-ı: the final p softens to b before the vowel-initial accusative suffix -ı.

I saw the child in the park.
çocuk → çocuğ-u: the final k softens to ğ before the accusative suffix -u.
Türkçe öğreniyorum.

Türk + -ce → Türkçe: the suffix -ce hardens to -çe after the hard consonant k. This is ünsüz sertleşmesi.
