What are common mistakes with Родовий відмінок?

🇬🇧 English speakers: the genitive does the job of English 'of' and the apostrophe-s, but it is one ending on the noun, not a separate word. After 'there isn't' / 'without' / numbers 5+, the noun MUST go genitive. 🇷🇺 Russian speakers: very close to Russian родительный, but uk masculine often prefers -а for concrete nouns where Russian might differ; watch -у/-ю for abstracts/substances (цукру). 🇨🇿 Czech speakers: the 2. pád uses match well (bez času, pět dní); endings differ in form but the logic is identical. 🇩🇪 German speakers: covers German genitive AND 'von' + dative; required after kein/ohne-type meanings via немає/без.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Родовий відмінок відповідає на питання кого? чого? Основні вживання:

Належність: книга бра́та, центр мі́ста (the brother's book).
Відсутність (після немає, без): немає ча́су, кава без цу́кру.
Кількість (після 5+, багато, мало, скільки): п'ять днів, багато люде́й.
Дати: пе́ршого тра́вня (on the 1st of May).
Заперечення прямого додатка: Я не п'ю ка́ви.
