El verbo estar es el segundo verbo «ser/estar» del español. También es irregular en presente.

Usos de ESTAR:
- Ubicación: El libro está en la mesa.
- Estados temporales: Estoy cansado. (ahora, no siempre)
- Emociones: Está contenta.
- Salud: ¿Cómo estás? — Estoy bien.
- Resultado de una acción: La puerta está abierta.
- Gerundio: Estoy comiendo. (estar + -ando/-iendo)
Nota: Todas las formas excepto estoy llevan tilde: estás, está, estáis, están.
Using estar for permanent qualities (use ser) or ser for locations (use estar). Also forgetting the accent marks on está, estás, estáis, están.

Where are you?
Estar is used for location. Note the accent on 'estás' (all forms except 'estoy' have accents).
Estoy muy cansado hoy.
I am very tired today.
Estar + adjective for temporary states. 'Cansado' is temporary — you're tired now, not always.
La tienda está cerrada.
The shop is closed.
Estar for the result of an action: someone closed it, so it's in a state of being closed.
