人称代词 — Personal Pronouns

Chinese pronouns are simple — no case changes (same form as subject and object).

SingularPlural (+们)
1st我 wǒ (I/me)我们 wǒmen (we/us)
2nd你 nǐ (you)你们 nǐmen (you all)
2nd formal您 nín
3rd他 tā (he) / 她 tā (she) / 它 tā (it)他们 tāmen (they)

Key points: All 3rd-person forms are pronounced — only the written character differs. Add 们 men for plurals. 您 nín is formal 'you' (like German Sie).

Since all 3rd-person forms sound the same (tā), beginners mix up 他/她/它 in writing. In speech, context clarifies. English speakers: May forget 您 (formal you) since English has only one 'you'. Russian speakers: Russian pronouns decline (я/меня/мне); Chinese pronouns never change form — 我 is always 我. Czech speakers: Czech pronouns decline heavily (já/mě/mi/mnou); Chinese is much simpler — no case changes.

我爱你。

I love you.

我爱你 — 我 is both 'I' (subject) and 'me' (object). No case change!

我们是朋友。

We are friends.

我们是朋友 — add 们 to make any pronoun plural: 我→我们, 你→你们, 他→他们.

您好!

How are you? (formal)

您好! — 您 nín is the polite form of 你, used with elders, superiors, strangers.
