בעברית שם תואר תמיד בא אחרי שם העצם ומסכים איתו במין ובמספר:
| שם עצם | שם תואר | תרגום |
|---|---|---|
| ילד גדול | גדול (m.sg.) | big boy |
| ילדה גדולה | גדולה (f.sg.) | big girl |
| ילדים גדולים | גדולים (m.pl.) | big boys |
| ילדות גדולות | גדולות (f.pl.) | big girls |
עם ה (הידיעה): שם העצם ושם התואר שניהם מקבלים ה:
- ספר טוב = a good book (indefinite)
- הספר הטוב = the good book (definite)
שים לב: *הספר טוב = The book is good (predicate), לא 'the good book'!
Putting the adjective BEFORE the noun (English/German order) — in Hebrew it always follows. Forgetting to add ה to the adjective when the noun has ה (הספר הטוב, not *הספר טוב for an attributive adj). Forgetting gender/number agreement.
English speakers: adjective-before-noun rule doesn't apply here. German speakers: same — German adjectives precede, Hebrew follow.
Типові помилки
Placed adjective before the noun instead of after
In Hebrew, adjectives ALWAYS follow the noun: ילד טוב (not *טוב ילד)
Adjective doesn't agree in gender or number with its noun
Check noun gender and number, then add the matching suffix: (m.sg.=base), (f.sg.=-ה), (m.pl.=-ים), (f.pl.=-ות)
