Zaimki dzierżawcze — Possessive Pronouns

Polish possessives agree in gender, number, and case with the noun they modify.

PersonMasc.Fem.Neut.
jamójmojamoje
tytwójtwojatwoje
onjego (invariable)
onajej (invariable)
mynasznaszanasze
wywaszwaszawasze
oni/oneich (invariable)

Key: jego, jej, ich never change. mój, twój, nasz, wasz decline like adjectives.

Learners forget gender agreement: *mój mama* instead of moja mama. Also confusing jego/jej/ich (invariable) with declining forms. English speakers: English 'my/your' are invariable — no gender agreement needed. Russian speakers: Russian мой/моя/моё works the same way — easy transfer. Czech speakers: Czech můj/moje/moje is very similar — direct parallel.

To jest mój pies.

This is my dog.

mój pies — masculine noun, so mój (not moja/moje).

Jej kot jest piękny.

Her cat is beautiful.

jej kot — jej is invariable (never changes for gender/case).

Nasz dom jest duży.

Our house is big.

nasze dom → nasz dom — dom is masculine, so nasz (not nasza/nasze).
