Zdvořilost se v češtině staví na kondicionálu a vykání:

Záporná otázka zní česky zdvořileji: Nevíte, kolik je hodin? je vlídnější než Víte…?

  • Imperative where conditional belongs: Dejte mi... → Mohl byste mi dát...?
  • *Mohl jste mi pomoct? (past) → Mohl byste mi pomoct? (conditional)
  • Negative questions are polite, not suspicious: Nemáte...? expects a helpful answer

Negative question misread

Nemáte...? / Nevíte...? = extra politeness

Prosím vás, nevíte, kde staví dvaadvacítka?
