Reading older and solemn Czech: jest, -ť, aniž, an, byv, kterak and their modern equivalents
I can read solemn and older texts and use aniž correctly in formal writing.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Schválili rozpočet, aniž by jednání trvalo déle než hodinu.
They approved the budget without the meeting lasting more than an hour.
„Tak jest," přisvědčil soudce slavnostně.
"So it is," the judge affirmed solemnly.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
