Spisovná a obecná čeština – systémové srovnání
The full parallel system: endings, prothetic v-, é→ý/í shifts across paradigms, and code-switching norms
I can map standard forms to their colloquial counterparts and switch register by situation.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Bylo to dobrý, ale příště bysme měli přijít dřív.
It was good, but next time we should come earlier.
S těma novejma sousedama jsme se hned skámošili.
We hit it off with the new neighbours right away.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Obecná čeština je systém, ne chyby — paralelní paradigma:
| Jev | Spisovně | Obecně |
|---|---|---|
| adj. M 1. p. | mladý muž | mladej muž |
| adj. N 1. p. | mladé víno | mladý víno |
| adj. 7. p. mn. | s mladými lidmi | s mladejma lidma |
| být 1. os. | jsem, jsme | (j)sem, (j)sme |
| 3. os. mn. -ají | dělají | dělaj |
Přepínání: formální situace, psaní, zkouška → spisovně; hospoda, kamarádi → obecně. Mluvčí přepínají plynule — i v jedné větě.
- Treating obecná as 'wrong Czech' — it is the spoken norm of Bohemia
- Mixing registers in formal writing
- Using obecná with officials — read the situation
