Hungarian numbers 11–100 with compound formation rules
I can use numbers 11–100 for age, prices and quantities.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Harminckét éves vagyok.
I am thirty-two years old.
A busz huszonöt percet késik.
The bus is twenty-five minutes late.
Ez száz forint.
This is one hundred forints.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Pattern: tíz+egy=tizenegy, húsz+egy=huszonegy, harminc+egy=harmincegy
Remember huszon- (not húszony-) for 21-29. Numbers are one word: harmincegy not harminc egy.

I am thirty-two years old.
Compound numbers are written as one word: harminc + kettő = harmincketté → harminckettő.
A busz huszonöt percet késik.
The bus is twenty-five minutes late.
húsz becomes huszon- before another number: huszonöt (25).
Ez száz forint.
This is one hundred forints.
Száz = 100. No article needed before the number.
