Гарахын тийн ялгал (Ablative)

Marks movement away from a place or source. Suffix follows vowel harmony: -аас (back: а,о), -оос (back: о), -ээс (front: э,ө,ү,и), -өөс (front: ө).

гэр → гэрээс (from home)
Улаанбаатар → Улаанбаатараас (from UB)

Wrong vowel harmony in ablative suffix

Using dative instead of ablative for 'from' meaning

Би Улаанбаатараас ирсэн.

I came from Ulaanbaatar.

Улаанбаатар (back vowels а) + -аас = Улаанбаатараас.

Гэрээс гарлаа.

Left from home.

гэр (front vowel э) + -ээс = гэрээс (ablative).

Юунаас айдаг вэ?

What are you afraid of?

Ablative also marks the source of feelings: айдаг (afraid) takes ablative.
