Өгөх оршихын тийн ялгал: -д/-т

Би Улаанбаатарт амьдардаг.
I live in Ulaanbaatar.
Надад ном өг.
Give me a book.
Сургуульд явна.
(I) go to school.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Өгөх оршихын тийн ялгал: -д/-т (Dative-Locative)
Indicates location (in/at) and indirect object (to/for). Use -д after vowels and voiced consonants; -т after voiceless consonants.
- гэр + -т = гэрт (at home)
- Улаанбаатар + -т = Улаанбаатарт (in UB)
Common Error Patterns
Confusing -д and -т variants
Forgetting dative marks destination of motion verbs too
Би Улаанбаатарт амьдардаг.
I live in Ulaanbaatar.
Улаанбаатар ends in р (voiced) → -т for location.
Надад ном өг.
Give me a book.
над (I, oblique) + -ад = надад (dative: to me).
Сургуульд явна.
(I) go to school.
сургууль ends in vowel/ль → -д (dative-locative).
