I get up at six o'clock.

Norwegian phrasal verbs combine a verb with a particle to create new meanings.
| Phrasal verb | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| stå opp | get up | Jeg står opp kl. 7. |
| gå ut | go out | Vi går ut i kveld. |
| komme inn | come in | Kom inn! |
| ta med | bring along | Ta med mat! |
🇬🇧 Particle can split from verb: ta med mat OR ta mat med. Don't omit the particle. 🇷🇺 Не пропускайте частицу. 🇨🇿 Částice se může oddělit od slovesa.
Common Error Patterns
Omitting the particle from a phrasal verb
Always include the particle: stå opp, gå ut, komme inn, ta med
Confusion about where to place the particle
Particle can come right after verb OR after the object: ta med mat / ta mat med
Jeg står opp klokken seks.
I get up at six o'clock.
'stå opp' = to get up (out of bed)
Vil du gå ut i kveld?
Do you want to go out tonight?
'gå ut' = go out; 'i kveld' = tonight
Ta med mat til piknik!
Bring food to the picnic!
'ta med' = bring/take along; particle can move: 'ta mat med'
