Miejscownik — Locative Case
The locative (miejscownik) is always used with a preposition: w (in), na (on/at), o (about), po (after/around).
| Gender | Nom. | Loc. | Ending |
|---|---|---|---|
| Masc. | dom | domu | -e / -u |
| Fem. | szkoła | szkole | -e / -i / -y |

w domu (at home), na ulicy (on the street), w szkole (at school), o czym mówisz? (what are you talking about?). Note consonant changes: k→c, g→dz, t→c before -e.
Consonant alternations before -e are tricky: k→c, g→dz, ł→l.

w + locative: dom → w domu (masculine -u ending).

- When is Miejscownik used?
- The locative (miejscownik) is always used with a preposition : w (in), na (on/at), o (about), po (after/around).
- How is Miejscownik formed?
- w domu (at home), na ulicy (on the street), w szkole (at school), o czym mówisz? (what are you talking about?). Note consonant changes: k→c, g→dz, t→c before -e.
- What are common mistakes with Miejscownik?
- The consonant alternations before -e are tricky: szkoła → szkole (ł→l), Kraków → Krakowie (k→k+ow+ie). Learners also confuse w vs na usage. English speakers: No case changes in English — must learn both the endings and the consonant shifts. Russian speakers: Russian предложный падеж is very similar — в доме, на улице. Strong transfer; just learn different endings. Czech speakers: Czech 6. pád (lokál) is the same concept — ve škole, na ulici. Nearly identical usage.
