Tener (to have) y venir (to come) son verbos irregulares con cambio de raíz e→ie y una forma irregular en yo (-go).

él/ella/ustedtieneviene
nosotros/astenemosvenimos

(not *soy 25 años)
  • Sensaciones: Tengo hambre/sed/frío/calor/sueño.
  • Obligación: Tengo que estudiar. (tener + que + infinitivo)

Forgetting the -go in the yo form (*teno → tengo). Also using ser for age instead of tener (*Soy 25 años → Tengo 25 años).

Tengo 30 años.

I am 30 years old.

Spanish uses TENER (to have) for age, not ser. Literally: 'I have 30 years.'

¿Tienes hambre?

Are you hungry?

tener hambre = to be hungry (literally: to have hunger). Note the stem change: ten- → tien- in the tú form.

Vengo del trabajo a las seis.

I come from work at six.

vengo: yo form has -go (irregular). Venir follows the same pattern as tener: vengo, vienes, viene, venimos, venís, vienen.
