Can conjugate regular verbs in the simple past tense to describe completed actions
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Ayer hablé con mi madre.
Yesterday I spoke with my mother.
¿Qué comiste ayer?
What did you eat yesterday?
Vivieron en Barcelona dos años.
They lived in Barcelona for two years.

El pretérito indefinido expresa acciones completadas en el pasado.

Nota: -er y -ir tienen las MISMAS terminaciones en pretérito indefinido. La forma nosotros de -ar y -ir es idéntica al presente (hablamos, vivimos) — el contexto aclara.
Ayer hablé con mi madre.
Yesterday I spoke with my mother.
hablar → yo hablé. Note the accent mark — without it, 'hable' is subjunctive.
¿Qué comiste ayer?
What did you eat yesterday?
comer → tú comiste. -er and -ir share the same past endings.
Vivieron en Barcelona dos años.
They lived in Barcelona for two years.
vivir → ellos vivieron. Completed action in the past with definite time frame.
