Postpositions -dan and -mde (from / until)
-dan marks origin in space and time, -mde the endpoint; together they frame ranges.
I can say where I come from and describe ranges in space and time.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
კიევიდან ვარ, მაგრამ ახლა თბილისში ვცხოვრობ.
I am from Kyiv, but now I live in Tbilisi.
მაღაზია ათიდან რვამდე მუშაობს.
The shop works from ten to eight.
სახლიდან ზღვამდე ფეხით ათი წუთია.
From the house to the sea it is ten minutes on foot.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
-დან and -მდე
-დან = from/out of: თბილისიდან (from Tbilisi), სამსახურიდან (from work). -მდე = up to/until: ზღვამდე (to the sea), ხუთამდე (until five).
Time ranges combine both: ცხრიდან ექვსამდე ვმუშაობ (I work from nine to six).
Putting a preposition in front (RU/UK/CS/DE/EN all use prepositions): *დან თბილისი instead of თბილისიდან. The marker always attaches to the END of the noun.
Common Error Patterns
Preposed or swapped -dan/-mde markers
Range-building drills: from-X to-Y with places and clock times.
კიევიდან ვარ, მაგრამ ახლა თბილისში ვცხოვრობ.
I am from Kyiv, but now I live in Tbilisi.
-დან for origin: კიევიდან.
მაღაზია ათიდან რვამდე მუშაობს.
The shop works from ten to eight.
Time range: ათიდან ... რვამდე.
სახლიდან ზღვამდე ფეხით ათი წუთია.
From the house to the sea it is ten minutes on foot.
