Pa'al binyan future tense — prefix conjugation
Can conjugate common Pa'al verbs in the future tense for all persons
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
מחר אני אכתוב מכתב.
Tomorrow I will write a letter.
היא תדבר עברית בעבודה.
She will speak Hebrew at work.
אנחנו נלמד ביחד.
We will study together.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
בבניין פעל, העתיד נוצר על-ידי תחיליות (prefixes) שמצורפות לשורש.

שים לב: אתה/היא חולקים את אותה הצורה (תכתוב) — ההקשר מבהיר מי מדבר.
Using past-tense suffix patterns in future (e.g., כתבתי instead of אכתוב). Confusing אתה/היא forms — both תכתוב but different persons. Forgetting feminine plural suffix -י for את (תכתבי, not תכתוב).
English speakers: no person-based prefix system in English. Ru/Cs speakers: prefix system is unfamiliar — conjugation is suffix-based in those languages.
Common Error Patterns
Used wrong prefix for the person (e.g., תכתוב for אני instead of אכתוב)
Memorize the 4 prefixes: אֶ- (I), תִּ- (you/she), יִ- (he/they), נִ- (we); then add -ו/-י suffixes for plural/f.
Forgot the feminine or plural suffix (e.g., תכתוב instead of תכתבי for את)
Add -י for את and -ו for אתם/הם after the prefix+root — these suffixes are mandatory
מחר אני אכתוב מכתב.
Tomorrow I will write a letter.
אכתוב = future of כתב (to write), 1st person singular: prefix אֶ- + root כ-ת-ב.
היא תדבר עברית בעבודה.
She will speak Hebrew at work.
תדבר: prefix תִּ- (she/you-m.) + root ד-ב-ר. Context (היא) clarifies it is 3rd person feminine.
אנחנו נלמד ביחד.
We will study together.
נלמד: prefix נִ- (we) + root ל-מ-ד. The נ- prefix is exclusive to 1st person plural future.
