Common Error Patterns

Used -miş for witnessed events or -di for unwitnessed events

-di = I saw/experienced it personally; -miş = I heard about it, or just noticed

Ali İstanbul'a taşınmış.

Ali has moved to Istanbul (I heard).

taşınmış: reported past — I didn't witness it. vs taşındı = I saw it.

Vay, yağmur yağmış!

Wow, it has rained! (I just noticed)

yağmış: I noticed the result — surprise/discovery use of -miş.

Bir varmış, bir yokmuş...

Once upon a time...

Fairy tales use -miş — narrator wasn't a witness. Classic Turkish opening.
