Obecná čeština je běžná mluvená čeština Čech (méně Moravy). Hlavní rozdíly:
| Spisovně | Obecně |
|---|---|
| dobrý den, mladý muž | dobrej den, mladej muž |
| dobré pivo | dobrý pivo |
| okno, on | vokno, von |
| můžu / mohu, děkuji | můžu, děkuju (dnes i neutrální) |
| s kamarády | s kamarádama |
Cizinec by měl obecnou češtinu rozumět, ale psát a u zkoušek mluvit spisovně. V hospodě zní spisovná čeština škrobeně — poslouchejte a přizpůsobte se okolí.
