Position words — 上, 下, 中, 前, 後ろ, 隣, 間, 右, 左
Can describe positions of things
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
銀行は郵便局の隣にあります。
The bank is next to the post office.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Use with の to indicate relative position:

| 上 | うえ | on / above |
| 下 | した | under / below |
| 中 | なか | inside |
| 前 | まえ | in front of |
| 後ろ | うしろ | behind |
| 隣 | となり | next to |
| 間 | あいだ | between |
| 右 | みぎ | right |
| 左 | ひだり | left |
| 近く | ちかく | near |
Pattern: A の [position] に B が ある/いる。= B is [position] of A.
例: 机の上に本があります。= There's a book on the desk.
