Te-form て形 — connecting verbs, making requests, and building grammar patterns

すみません、写真を撮ってください。

Excuse me, please take a photo.

朝起きて、顔を洗って、朝ごはんを食べます。

I wake up, wash my face, and eat breakfast.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

て形 — Te-Form

The て form is the most important conjugation to master. It's used for: requests (〜てください), progressive (〜ている), connecting actions, and many grammar patterns.

〜す→して話す→話して
〜む, 〜ぶ, 〜ぬ→んで読む→読んで, 飲む→飲んで

る→て (食べる→食べて)する→して, 来る→来て(きて)

Exception: 行く→行って (not 行いて).

撮る(とる, take) → 撮って(て form, Group 1: る→って) + ください(please)

朝起きて、顔を洗って、朝ごはんを食べます。

I wake up, wash my face, and eat breakfast.

て form connects sequential actions: 起きて(wake up, て) → 洗って(wash, て) → 食べます(eat, final verb in ます)
