今、音楽を聞いています。
I'm listening to music now.
東京に住んでいます。
I live in Tokyo.

ている — Progressive & State
て form + いる/います expresses (1) ongoing action or (2) resulting state.
| Use | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Ongoing action | 本を読んでいます。 | I am reading a book. (right now) |
| Resulting state | 結婚しています。 | I am married. (state, not action) |
| Habitual | 毎日走っています。 | I run every day. (habitual) |
Polite: 〜ています / ていません. Casual: 〜ている / ていない (often shortened to 〜てる / てない).
Not knowing whether ている means action-in-progress or state (depends on verb type); Overusing ている for simple present
今、音楽を聞いています。
I'm listening to music now.
今(いま, now) + 音楽(おんがく, music) + を + 聞いて(きいて, て form of 聞く) + います(progressive)
東京に住んでいます。
I live in Tokyo.
住む(すむ, live) → 住んで(て form) + います — resulting state, not ongoing action
