Поэтический синтаксис
Reading verse grammar: inversions (звезда полей), genitive metaphors, ellipsis, апострофа, syntactic parallelism from folklore to rock
I can parse verse syntax and hear what each inversion and ellipsis does.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Ночь, улица, фонарь, аптека, бессмысленный и тусклый свет.
Night, street, streetlamp, drugstore, a meaningless and dim light.
В саду горит костёр рябины красной, но никого не может он согреть.
In the garden burns the bonfire of the red rowan, but it can warm no one.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
- Poetic inversion read as neutral order: it's marked
- Folk postposition imitated in prose: instant kitsch
Common Error Patterns
Inversions read as plain word order
Postposition and genitive metaphors are devices
Folk style imitated unironically
поле чистое register: folklore/irony only
