Nepřímá řeč nemění čas původní výpovědi — mění se jen osoba:

|---|---|
| „Mám hlad." | Řekl, že má hlad. |
| „Přijdu zítra." | Slíbil, že přijde zítra. |
| „Kde bydlíš?" | Ptal se, kde bydlím. |
| „Přijď!" | Řekl, abych přišel. |
Otázky zjišťovací → jestli/zda: Ptala se, jestli mám čas. Pokyny → aby.
- Backshift imported from EN/DE: Řekl, že *měl hlad (if he said „mám") → že má hlad
- Reported command with že: Řekl, *že mám přijít → better abych přišel
- *Ptala se, že mám čas → jestli mám čas
