Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?

მიუხედავად იმისა, რომ წვიმდა, რთველი არ შეჩერებულა.

Despite the fact that it was raining, the harvest didn't stop.

თუმცა ქართული რთულია, ყოველდღე უფრო მიყვარს.

Although Georgian is difficult, I love it more every day.

გვიანია, მაგრამ მაინც მოდი - უშენოდ სუფრა სუფრა არ არის.

It's late, but come anyway - without you a supra isn't a supra.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Despite everything

Three concession tools by register: formal მიუხედავად იმისა, რომ (despite the fact that), neutral თუმცა (although), and the particle მაინც (anyway/still) that marks the stubborn main clause: დაღლილი ვარ, მაინც მოვალ (I'm tired - I'll come anyway).

Truncating the formal frame (*miukhedavad rom) and stacking tumtsa + magram in one sentence.

Common Error Patterns

Concessive frames missing their resolution or maints misplaced

Despite-still drills: pair every concession with its stubborn main clause.

მიუხედავად იმისა, რომ წვიმდა, რთველი არ შეჩერებულა.

Despite the fact that it was raining, the harvest didn't stop.

miukhedavad imisa, rom - the full formal concessive frame.

თუმცა ქართული რთულია, ყოველდღე უფრო მიყვარს.

Although Georgian is difficult, I love it more every day.

tumtsa - the everyday 'although', lighter than the miukhedavad frame.

გვიანია, მაგრამ მაინც მოდი - უშენოდ სუფრა სუფრა არ არის.

It's late, but come anyway - without you a supra isn't a supra.

maints = 'anyway/still': the stubborn particle of Georgian hospitality.
