Český slovosled je relativně volný, ale má důležitá pravidla. Základní pořadí je SVO (podmět – sloveso – předmět).

Pravidlo druhé pozice: Příklonky (jsem, jsi, se, si, by, mu, mi, ho, ji) stojí vždy na 2. místě ve větě:
Petr se učí česky. (ne *Petr učí se česky)
Včera jsem byl v Praze. (ne *Včera byl jsem v Praze)
Volný slovosled slouží k vyjádření důrazu. Nová informace stojí na konci: Ten dopis napsal Petr. (důraz na Petr = Petr wrote it)
Các lỗi thường gặp
Placing a clitic (se, si, jsem, jsi, by, mu, mi) outside of second position
Clitics ALWAYS go in second position: after the first stressed word or phrase. Petr se učí. Včera jsem byl doma.
Applying L1 word order rules instead of Czech information structure
Czech puts known/old information first and new/emphasized information last. SVO is default but flexible for emphasis.
Petr se učí česky.
Petr is learning Czech.
The reflexive clitic se must be in second position, after the first stressed element (Petr). Not *Petr učí se česky.
Včera jsem byl v Praze.
Yesterday I was in Prague.
Jsem (clitic of být) goes to 2nd position after včera. The subject já is dropped (pro-drop). Not *Včera byl jsem.
Ten dopis napsal Petr.
It was Petr who wrote that letter.
New/emphasized information goes last: Petr is the focus (who wrote it). Default: Petr napsal ten dopis (neutral).
