Irregular future stems: sarò, avrò, andrò, farò, verrò, potrò, dovrò, vorrò
Can use the eight most common irregular future stems
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Verranno anche i nonni alla festa?
Will the grandparents come to the party too?
Domani sarò a casa tutto il giorno.
Tomorrow I will be at home all day.
Avrai tempo sabato pomeriggio?
Will you have time on Saturday afternoon?
Non potrò venire: dovrò lavorare.
I won't be able to come: I will have to work.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Alcuni verbi molto frequenti hanno una radice irregolare al futuro semplice. Le desinenze restano regolari (-ò, -ai, -à, -emo, -ete, -anno): cambia solo la radice.

Come ricordarli: tre gruppi - caduta della vocale (avr-, andr-, potr-, dovr-), doppia r (verr-, vorr-), radici proprie (sar-, far-).

Common Error Patterns
Building the future on the full infinitive instead of the irregular stem
Drill the three stem groups: vowel-drop (avr-, andr-, potr-, dovr-), double-r (verr-, vorr-), own stems (sar-, far-).

venire → verr-: double-r group (verrò, verrai, verranno).
Domani sarò a casa tutto il giorno.
Tomorrow I will be at home all day.
essere → sar-: sarò, sarai, sarà.
Avrai tempo sabato pomeriggio?
Will you have time on Saturday afternoon?
avere → avr-: the vowel drops (avrò, avrai).
Non potrò venire: dovrò lavorare.
I won't be able to come: I will have to work.
potere → potr-, dovere → dovr-: vowel-drop group.
