Can use common irregular and modal verbs in everyday sentences

Vado al supermercato.
I go to the supermarket.
Cosa fai? Faccio il caffè.
What are you doing? I am making coffee.
Voglio mangiare ma devo lavorare.
I want to eat but I have to work.

I modali si usano con l'infinito: Posso parlare? Voglio mangiare. Devo andare.
Common Error Patterns
Applying regular patterns to irregular verbs (*ando for vado, *faco for faccio)
Memorize the most common irregular verbs: andare, fare, stare, dare, dire, venire, uscire. No shortcuts.
Conjugating both the modal and the main verb, or using wrong form
Modal verb pattern: conjugated modal + INFINITIVE. Voglio mangiare (not *voglio mangio).
Vado al supermercato.
I go to the supermarket.
Andare: io vado (not *ando). Completely irregular stem in singular and 3rd plural.
Cosa fai? Faccio il caffè.
What are you doing? I am making coffee.
Fare: tu fai, io faccio. Fare means both 'to do' and 'to make'.
Voglio mangiare ma devo lavorare.
I want to eat but I have to work.
Modal verbs + infinitive: voglio mangiare, devo lavorare. The modal is conjugated; the main verb stays in infinitive.
