I can place the single comma in compound conjunctions and know what forces the split.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Мы остались дома не потому, что шёл дождь, а потому, что досматривали сериал.
We stayed home not because it was raining, but because we were finishing the series.
Несмотря на то что баня уже остыла, дед туда всё равно сходил - из принципа.
Even though the banya had already cooled down, grandpa went anyway - on principle.

Составной союз может писаться целиком или расчленяться:

Расчленение обязательно при: отрицании (не потому, что), усилительных частицах (именно потому, что), вводных словах, параллелизме. Запятая ставится один раз - либо перед союзом, либо внутри.
