Reported speech without backshift: что for statements, чтобы for commands, ли for yes/no questions
I can report statements, commands and questions with что/чтобы/ли and no tense shift.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Соседка спросила, не помешает ли нам её пианино по вечерам.
The neighbour asked whether her piano would disturb us in the evenings.
Тренер сказал, что доволен, и попросил, чтобы мы не расслаблялись.
The coach said he was pleased and asked us not to slack off.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Главная радость: времена не сдвигаются:

| «Ты придёшь?» | Он спросил, приду ли я. |

«Ли» стоит после слова, о котором спрашивают. Меняются только лица и наречия (завтра → на следующий день).

не помешает ли: polite indirect yes/no question.
Тренер сказал, что доволен, и попросил, чтобы мы не расслаблялись.
The coach said he was pleased and asked us not to slack off.
что + чтобы: statement and request in one report.
