Sloveso mít (to have) je jedno z nejdůležitějších českých sloves. Používá se pro vlastnictví, povinnost a mnoho ustálených výrazů.

Zápor: ne- + tvar: nemám, nemáš, nemá, nemáme, nemáte, nemají.
Užitečné výrazy: mít rád/a (to like), mít pravdu (to be right), mít hlad (to be hungry), mít žízeň (to be thirsty), mít čas (to have time).
Learners confuse mít conjugation with být, or forget that Czech uses mít + noun where English uses 'to be' + adjective.

Wrong conjugation form of mít (e.g., *mám instead of máš for ty)
Memorize the full paradigm: mám, máš, má, máme, máte, mají. Note the long á in all forms.
Used být where mít is needed (e.g., *jsem hlad instead of mám hlad)
Czech uses mít (have) for: hunger, thirst, time, being right/wrong, liking. Learn these as set phrases.

Mám is the 1st person singular of mít. Objects bratry/sestru are in accusative case.
Nemáte pravdu.
You are wrong. (lit. You don't have rightness.)
Negation prefix ne- attaches directly: ne + máte = nemáte. Mít pravdu = to be right.
Mají hlad a žízeň.
They are hungry and thirsty.
Czech uses mít (have) for hunger/thirst: mít hlad (have hunger), mít žízeň (have thirst).
