Slovesa zakončená na -at patří k nejběžnějším českým slovesům. Časují se podle vzoru dělat.

Pravidlo: Odstraňte -at z infinitivu a přidejte koncovky -ám, -áš, -á, -áme, -áte, -ají. Tato skupina je zcela pravidelná — jakmile se ji naučíte, zvládnete stovky sloves.

Learners mix up -at verb endings with -it/-et endings, especially in the 3rd person plural (-ají vs -í). 🇬🇧 English speakers: English verbs barely conjugate, so memorizing six distinct endings feels excessive. Speakers often default to the infinitive or use only the já form.

Common Error Patterns

Used wrong personal ending for an -at verb (e.g., *dělím instead of dělám)

Remember: -at verbs always use long-á endings: -ám, -áš, -á, -áme, -áte, -ají

Applied -it/-et endings to an -at verb or vice versa

Check the infinitive: if it ends in -at, use the -ám paradigm; if -it/-et, use the -ím paradigm

Dělám domácí úkoly každý den.

I do homework every day.

Dělat → dělám: remove -at, add -ám for the 1st person singular.

Znáš moji kamarádku?

Do you know my friend (f.)?

Znát → znáš: regular -at conjugation, 2nd person singular -áš.

Oni čekají na autobus.

They are waiting for the bus.

Čekat → čekají: 3rd person plural always ends in -ají for -at verbs.
