The perfective future has no helper verb at all. You take a perfective verb and conjugate it with the same endings that imperfective verbs use for the present. The form looks like a present tense, but it means the future.
| Imperfective: бу́ду + infinitive | Perfective: one conjugated word | |
|---|---|---|
| я | бу́ду чита́ть | прочита́ю |
| ты | бу́дешь чита́ть | прочита́ешь |
| он, она́ | бу́дет чита́ть | прочита́ет |
| мы | бу́дем чита́ть | прочита́ем |
| вы | бу́дете чита́ть | прочита́ете |
| они́ | бу́дут чита́ть | прочита́ют |
Я бу́ду чита́ть кни́гу says you will spend time reading. Я прочита́ю кни́гу promises a result: you will get to the end. Compare: Ве́чером я бу́ду писа́ть пи́сьма ("In the evening I'll be writing letters") and Я напишу́ тебе́ за́втра ("I'll write to you tomorrow", one message, done). Most one-off promises and plans use the perfective: Я позвоню́ ве́чером, "I'll call in the evening"; Я куплю́ хлеб, "I'll buy bread".
Because прочита́ю looks like чита́ю, learners read it as "I'm reading". It is not: a perfective verb has no present tense, so прочита́ю can only be future. If you want "I'm reading now", you need the imperfective чита́ю. The other trap is mixing the two systems, as in *бу́ду прочита́ть.
Some perfectives have irregular stems you just learn: сказа́ть → скажу́, ска́жешь; дать → дам, дашь, даст; взять → возьму́, возьмёшь.
