«У + род.п. + есть» — русский способ выразить «иметь»:

| У меня́ есть кот. | At me there-is cat. | I have a cat. |
| У тебя́ есть вре́мя? | At you there-is time? | Do you have time? |
| У него́ есть маши́на. | At him there-is car. | He has a car. |
Отрицание: У меня́ нет + род.п.: У меня́ нет ко́та. (I don't have a cat.)
НЕ используйте: *Я имею кот ✗. Всегда: У меня есть кот ✓.
